Sunday after Sunday, something came up — a work call, an urgent file, always something. 'Next Sunday' became Karan's favourite promise, and his most broken one. Weeks turned into months. Her calls came less often. Sometimes he let them ring, telling himself he'd call back. He rarely did. And in a small village home, an old woman sat by the window every Sunday, a steel box of fresh laddoos on the table, waiting for a car that never came.

The Call He Couldn't Ignore

Then one Tuesday, a call came that he couldn't ignore. His Dadi was unwell. Suddenly, the file on his screen meant nothing. For the first time in months, Karan drove through the night, hands shaking, one prayer on his lips: 'Please. Not yet. I still have time.'
